Arishtasavas are fermented medicated liquid products. The medicinal properties of plants can be preserved for a long duration by this type of preparation. These medicated liquids are used in fever, cough, bronchitis, sinusitis, indigestion, hemorrhoids, rheumatic diseases, diabetes, cardiac ailments, anxiety, stress, skin disorders, arthritis, etc. Used to improve general strength and vitality and also useful in after-delivery care.
The raw materials for manufacturing the medicine are checked by expert physicians of AVS. Made by soaking the drugs, either in powder form or in the form of decoction (Kashaya), in a solution of sugar, jaggery, or honey, according to the classical text reference, for a specified period of time, during which it undergoes a process of fermentation generating alcohol, thus facilitating the extraction of the active principles contained in the drugs. Self-generated alcohol also serves as a preservative. The filtered Arishta or Asava should be clear without froth at the top. It should not become sour. The preparation has the characteristics of aromatic alcoholic odor. Total solids, pH, alcohol content, specific gravity, total reducing sugar, non-reducing sugar, and methanol are tested in a quality control laboratory. Color, smell, taste and other organoleptic properties of Arishtasavas are checked by senior physicians of AVS. The medicines are prepared under the close supervision of experienced doctors.The expiry period is 10 years from the date of manufacturing. AVS is keeping an in-house standard for each arishtasava and documenting it. Arishtasavas are manufactured at the AVS Kanjikode factory.
Normal Dose: 15 to 30 ml for adults and 5 to 10 ml for children or as directed by the physician.
Usage: To be taken twice daily after food.
Presentation: 450 ml in PET bottle.
